Bauble of the Moss Folk

The Moss Folk come to us from the forests of Germany where they are known as Moosleute or wilde Leute(wild people), but they can be found in the folklore of the neighboring central European countries of Poland and the Czech Republic as well. They sometimes are known by other names such as Forest Folk or Wood Folk. No matter what they are called, these creatures are always highly identified with trees and considered to be the trees’ guardian spirits.

Around our area, we have an exquisite stand of Pine.  Within it, nature has gifted us with hints of the Moss Folk, which we have encapsulated in a miniature bauble.

Donar’s Oak is now offering the tiniest of terrariums that contain minute  living features of our pine forest.

Taking up no more surface space than a dime, these little bottles of life bring nature closer to you.  They are individually hand made using wild grown species harvested by hand.

Unlike many novelty terrariums, the Donar’s Oak version:

  • Contains no fairy dust (aka: metallic glitter).
  • Contains no fake little houses, garden gnomes or figurines.
  • Is free from preserved, dead,  ‘moss’ purchased in bags from craft stores.
  • Is alive!
  • 100% whimsical-free and 100% natural as the Gods and Goddesses would have created it.

So much more than your typical “air plant wedged into glass”, each hand crafted bottle is made with two layers of substrate and no less than two species of living moss.  Also each one is inoculated with natural mycorrhizal spores, algae and inverts.  Consider finding an occasional visible moving invert in your  bottle as a blessed sign from the moss folk. These are treasured, but not every bottle is guaranteed to have one.

These terrariums are near closed-cycle ecosystems and need not be disturbed for months on end.

The bottles may be displayed on a desktop, dresser, or counter top.  They also can be easily displayed on a cord around your neck!  A few hours of indirect light is needed, but keep out of direct sunlight for too long.

We will begin test marketing these at our tent at the  Michigan Renaissance Festival. We’ll have many of them September 16th and 17th.  They will be priced attractively, and fit into anyone’s budget.
